Did you know that nearly 10,000 New Jersey children were removed from their homes last year due to abuse or neglect?
Even more shocking, 600 of those 10,000 children were specifically from Monmouth County – our area!
This summer, Gonzalez Financial Services is honored to partner with Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) programs to help protect the safety and welfare of these children, as their advocates in both the judicial and child welfare systems. Child abuse damages children’s lives physically, mentally and emotionally which ultimately results in an immeasurable loss to society.
CASA volunteers are trained to work one-on-one with an abused or neglected child, advocating for his or her best interests. Essentially, CASA volunteers “speak up” for these children in the court and child welfare systems, making sure they are safe and well-cared for, are getting the services they need and are placed in a permanent, safe, nurturing home as quickly as possible. CASA volunteers come from a wide variety of backgrounds and spend between 10 and 25 hours a month working on behalf of an individual child. They search out critical information, interview everyone relevant to the case, locate special services, find relatives who might provide a permanent home and monitor the overall case as well as compliance with court orders.
“Since the beginning, it’s always been all about family at our agency. That’s why it’s critical that we all come together to establish new families for these children and ensure they are properly cared for,” says Gil Gonzalez, agency owner.
Currently, CASA is recruiting and training more advocates for children.
This is where you can help.
